October

October has roared in with the remnants of Ian. Lots of wind and rain on a Friday afternoon and evening. Of course, it made for a great night to curl up with a good book.

Which season do you find yourself reading more books????

Spring?

Summer?

Fall?

Winter?

Growing old

I came across this quote today and it made me think. It's from Rose Kennedy. Matriarch of the Kennedy family for those too young to remember. She is quoted as saying,

"I've like an old wine-they don't bring me out often, but I'm well preserved."

I suppose that's a good way of looking at old age. It sounds like you are comfortable enough with yourself to understand that its okay to be alone. But when asked an opinion, it doesn't hurt to give it - no holes barred. Because at your age, you are entitled. AKA - you have seen it, been there, maybe even bought that T shirt.

I'm growing into old age. I'm not there yet, even thought I waved goodbye to a half a century many moons ago. I still feel young. My body feels young (at times) as long as I don't over push it. Meaning, take on the job of four people. I still push to mow 2 acres of grass. The horses do the work on the other three. I dust, not as often as I should. I hang clothes out. I drive to work 5 to 6 days a week and do my job standing on my feet not sitting on my.... well, you know. I cook, clean, and take out the garbage. Sometimes, I climb on the ladder to clean the gutters.

Point of Contest here... I did climb on the roof last year to removed some limbs that had broken off and clean the slopes of the roof where the pine straw gathered.. Yeah, I won't do that again. I found myself a bit dizzy.

But the moral, yes, I believe there is a moral, people age differently. You are allowed to continue life without reprimand until you know enough is enough. My mom didn't slow down until she was 80. I hope to get in a few years more. I've got at least 14 to 15 more years to go...

September Mornings

September has arrived with it's hope of cooler days. Here in the south, those cooler days may take a bit longer to arrive. Our temps my stay close to the ninety degree mark, but what we are all excited for is the loss of humidity which makes those temperatures a bit easier to handle. We go from roast to just that low tan.

With school starting just a few days from now, there will be lots of time for sitting on the porch, sipping some tea and opening a good book. I hope you'll take time to enjoy some lazy afternoons with your book boyfriends as we pass the time together.
